Cotton bud sticks

Still found in huge quantities on our coast, these fine sticks originally had soft cotton ‘buds’ at their tips and were used for cleaning ears and nasal orifices. Many millions were disposed of down pipelines directly from people’s homes and were flushed out to sea, until composting of human waste became customary in the late 21c in an effort to conserve shrinking supplies of freshwater.
