keyring

Key ring

As inequality in society grew and consumption amongst the wealthy peaked, people became increasingly concerned about the security of their homes and their many possessions. Throughout the oil age it was therefore customary for people to lock their possessions (and often themselves) into secure buildings and sometimes vehicles for fear of robbery or worse. This item is a purpose-made ring, dating from the 1970s, for carrying the many keys that this obsession with security necessitated. People would carry their ring with them at all times. Carriers of multiple rings were known as 'Lords' and sometimes formed fellowships.
